Overview of manganese iron products:

High carbon manganese iron is an alloy composed of manganese and iron. Produced by blast furnace method and electric furnace.

Production process of high carbon ferromanganese products:

The production methods of high carbon ferromanganese include blast furnace method and electric furnace method. The following are the characteristics of these two methods:

Blast furnace method: Manganese ore, coke, and lime are separately added to the blast furnace for smelting, resulting in blast furnace ferromanganese containing 52%~76% manganese/0.4%~0.6% phosphorus. Due to the only difference between blast furnaces and electric furnaces in smelting high carbon ferromanganese, which is the difference in heat sources, the structure, geometric shape, and operating methods of the two furnaces are different. However, the principle of smelting high carbon ferromanganese in both furnaces is the same.

However, the two types of furnaces use the same type of manganese ore for smelting, resulting in different phosphorus content in the products. The blast furnace products are 0.07%~0.11% higher than the electric furnace products. This is because the proportion of coke in the burden composition of blast furnace smelting is 5-6 times that of electric furnace smelting, so more phosphorus in the coke is transferred into the alloy. Moreover, the furnace temperature during blast furnace smelting is lower, so the volatilization of phosphorus during the smelting process is about 10% lower than that of electric furnace smelting.

There are three methods for smelting high carbon ferromanganese using electric furnace method, namely solvent-free method, solvent method, and low solvent method. Below is an introduction to the commonly used method for smelting high carbon ferromanganese: solvent method.

Solvent method. The solvent method is a commonly used method for smelting high carbon ferromanganese. In addition to manganese ore and coke, there is also lime in the composition of the furnace charge. During smelting, high alkalinity slag is used to operate the alkalinity, with B=1.3~1.4. Sufficient reducing agents are used to minimize the manganese content in the waste slag and improve the manganese recovery rate. This method is used for smelting high carbon manganese iron with a combination of poor and rich manganese ores, and will be further discussed in detail in the future.

The purpose of manganese iron products:

Manganese iron is widely used in the steel industry, casting industry, and other industrial production.

1. Steel industry: Manganese iron is an indispensable deoxidizer and desulfurizer in the steelmaking industry. Good steel needs to undergo deoxygenation and desulfurization treatment during smelting, and the use of deoxidizers will greatly increase its cost consumption. Therefore, manganese iron is a cheap deoxidizer, and desulfurization refers to the removal of harmful substances such as sulfur from the steel. Manganese iron can effectively achieve the goal of desulfurization, helping to reduce the content of harmful elements in the steel and improve the quality of the steel.

In the steelmaking industry, approximately 3-5 kg of 75% manganese iron is consumed for each ton of steel produced.

2. Foundry industry: Adding manganese iron to cast iron can serve as a inoculant and spheroidizer for ductile iron, and can prevent the formation of carbides, causing graphite precipitation, greatly reducing spheroidization time, and significantly reducing the form of impurities in molten iron, improving the quality of cast iron and improving its performance. And reducing the blockage of the smelting furnace water inlet can help extend the service life of the smelting furnace.

3. Other industries: High carbon manganese iron or manganese based alloys are used as reducing agents in the production of low-carbon iron alloys in the ferroalloy industry. Manganese iron powder can be used as a suspended phase in the mineral processing industry and as a coating for welding rods in the welding rod manufacturing industry; High manganese ferromanganese can be used in the electrical industry to prepare semiconductor pure manganese, and in the chemical industry to manufacture manganese ketones.

The role of high carbon ferromanganese products:

Electric furnace high carbon ferromanganese is mainly used as a deoxidizer, desulfurizer, and alloy additive in steelmaking. In addition, with the progress of medium and low carbon ferromanganese production technology, high carbon ferromanganese can also be applied to the production of medium and low carbon ferromanganese.
