Ferrosilicon is a kind of deoxidizer or alloy element additive. According to the silicon content, there are 72% and 75% of ferrosilicon. It is made of silica, steel and coke. Iron alloys are formed in molten iron. It is an important alloy variety in the smelting industry.

1. Used as deoxidizer and alloying agent in steelmaking industry.

2. Used as inoculant and nodulizer in cast iron industry. Cast iron is an important metal material in modern industry. It is cheaper than steel, easy to melt and smelt, has excellent casting performance and much better shock resistance than steel. In particular, the mechanical properties of ductile iron are at or close to those of steel. Adding a certain amount of ferrosilicon to cast iron can prevent the formation of carbon in iron and promote the precipitation and spheroidization of graphite. Therefore, in the production of ductile iron, ferrosilicon is an important inoculant (to help precipitate graphite) and spheroidizer .

3. Used as reducing agent in ferroalloy production. Not only the chemical affinity between silicon and oxygen is great, but also the carbon content of high silicon ferrosilicon is very low. Therefore, high-silicon ferrosilicon (or silicon alloy) is a reducing agent commonly used in the production of low-carbon ferroalloys in the ferroalloy industry.
