High-carbon ferrochrome smelting methods are blast furnace, electric furnace, plasma furnace and so on. The use of blast furnace can only be obtained in about 30% chromium special pig iron. As of 2012, chromium-high high-carbon ferrochrome mostly flux method in the smelting furnace.
The basic principle of smelting high-carbon ferrochrome by EAF is to use chrome ore in chromium to reduce chromium and iron oxides. The starting temperature of Cr2C2 was 1373K, the reaction initiation temperature of the Cr7C3 was 1403K, and the reaction initiation temperature of the reduction of chromium was 1523K, so that the chromium carbide was obtained in the carbon reduction chrome ore, instead of the chromium. The level of carbon in ferrochromium depends on the reaction temperature. It is easier to produce carbides with higher carbon content than to produce carbides with low carbon content.
