Silicon manganese is a compound of natural silicon mixed with manganese, an element that occurs naturally in the earth. Combined, these elements are used to produce many specialty steel alloys. This compound enhances the natural properties of the steel, giving it increased strength and functionality, as well as improved aesthetic appeal. This means that these alloys can be used in applications other than standard steel products. Silicon manganese can also be called silicon manganese iron or SiMn for short.
The index of silicon-manganese alloy is divided into 6517 and 6014, among which the silicon content of 6517 is 17-19, the manganese content is 65-68; the silicon content of 6014 is 14-16, the manganese content is 60-63, and their carbon content is less than 2.5% , less than 0.3% phosphorus, less than 0.05% sulfur
These elements have many advantages when used in steel production. Each of these substances acts as a powerful deoxidizer. By combining the two, manufacturers can maximize these deoxidizing properties, thereby increasing the durability of the steel. Alloys made using this compound have a high level of rust resistance, making them suitable for outdoor or moisture-prone applications. They are also resistant to corrosion and can be used in certain types of chemicals or in coastal locations.
Adding silicon manganese to steel also results in a purer, cleaner steel alloy. These chemicals draw natural elements like phosphorus from the steel. This means fewer impurities and a higher quality product. Alloys made using this technique take longer and cost more to produce than conventional steels. That means higher prices and longer lead times for builders and other end users.
